And we came to and end of this ridiculously sick event. Was the best 5 days of this summer/winter. Skiers basically killed it this year. Everyone did sick tricks, doubles, grabs...and every trick this year was bigger than 1080. Jump was amazing even tho it was kind of scary sometimes. Organizer Tim Myers with his crew definitely deserves big ups for putting all together and makes it really cool, safe for us riders and entertaining for all of you back home. The vids are going to be sick and i hope you will appreciate it. I'm coming back next year, that's for sure. Thanks every rider for hanging out and inspire my skiing and Tim to host me as a king. Pce

Today, well today was on. They added a bit more pop to the jump so it was sick cause you actually stalled up in the air. Was still windy a bit from the side and was quite a big deal...So after couple of hits almost everyone decided not to hit it and it was only me and McRae who insisted. When i did a straight air wind pushed me into 180 which was...well not really comfortable. Next try i waxed my skis went 5 meter higher on the inrun and went for mellow cork 5...As soon as i came around wind just pushed my legs on the side and i managed to kinda safe myself by falling straight on my hip. It wasn't really a safe after traveling 3/4 over the knuckle and hitting straight on a hip made me stay on the ground for couple of minutes not moving. Everyone helped me asap but my day was over in that second. Went to the doctor who said injury will get me rested for 3-8 weeks depending on the healing. So unfortunately it was the end of Toyota one hit wonder event for me. I am so stoked for McRae who jumped alone and landed sick tricks...i guess i am gonna chill out for 2 days and than i fly off to Bali where i'll try to rehab myself and maybe surf as soon as i'll be ready. I am so happy to be part of this event and jumping on that jump was really close to flying and it gets me even more stoked. Stay tuned for our entries...i can just say that all the tricks are better than last year's best trick and that all the tricks are pretty damn smooth.

Today we woke up after a bit rough night and the wind took away one more day of jumping. Went for a couple of laps in the small park but was so icy that we bail after hour and a half. But the day usually brings something good so we decided to go to the pool with the slide and a "mission inflated"... i think that was the best decision to keep ourselves occupied and at least having a bit of a fun...Bobby Brown left for US and A already in the morning and Robby Walker joined us to keep snowboarding alive after all the snowboarders bailed already due to injuries or personal reasons. The forecast for tomorrow is looking good so we're pretty stoked to finally get some jumping in. Russ and Charles made some changes on a take off so we could fly even higher.(check the video)

Month ago me and my friend Luka ordered surfboards from a local shaper Sam Parsons. After month and a half waiting for it Luka finally picked em up on a Gold coast and sent me photos. I am so stoked for month and a half surfing in Bali after the Toyota One hit wonder event next week in Thredbo...awesomeness

Despite internet i couldn't stand it anymore and today someone blessed us with sun and a great shred on the hill. woke up, got a call that weather up on the hill is sweet, dressed up, ate 2 toasts with jam and boom headed up...at this time of the season it's pretty empty so i did at least 20 laps through the park in 2 and a half hours. was sick...did all the basics of every trick till 720 and i am glad i've done it cause sometimes when you hit bigger jumps you just want to go big and you're forgetting about basics...fish for lunch, skatepark and The International the movie...good day it was

On 2nd day we did this lettle feature which came out really cool at the end. Despite worst blizzard conditions sun came out for a few seconds to call a drop and do the shot. I am stoked that i made some cool shots with Joseph in 3 days of shooting after work in this weather in bc and park...Respect to boys who helped us (Will, Sanchez, Tom)

Today and tomorrow i am photoshooting with Joseph Prudham for some photo magazines and maybe we will be lucky to be published in some australian ski magazine. Did this mellow step down thru rocks on a pretty flat landing. I think it looked pretty dope for Aussie backcountry tho. Oh yeah wind blowing 50km/h with chill -13 and snowing...sounds like a real winter over here at the end of August. more features tomorrow

It's been only a week since i got injured and today doctor said that i can get back on snow to work as an instructor but not to the park. Shoulder is still really sore, but imagine doing something others say to you? No way. Went straight to the park this arvo and did couple of laps with mellow tricks just to get moves back. I had so much fun alone with Biggie in my ears. I am pretty bumped, because i can't go to Thredbo today for a Rip Curl pro ' contest, but i think it is better for now just to relax, clear my head and focus on threatment and gymwork till September.

MY rehab after shoulder injury isn't that bad at all. I have easier tasks at job, i am not tired, i don't need to work in a this weeks blizzard and i can go to gym with Luka, myyyy maaaaan! i still avoid those big weights but i do pretty cool exercises which make my core pretty stable.

Today is Friday 13th and yes i feel it...actually my shoulder does. Went over the handlebars on a training and POOOP :D I think it's nothing really bad and as the physio Pam told me i will be back soon. She repaired my knee last year as well and i won the competition so this year, let's hope for the best and i will make sure you hear from me soon with some photos of action. Pce out

I must say this day was really special to me, because the first thing in the morning was to check the score of a last night's soccer game between Slovenia and Australia...of course our champions won and that was a start of claiming for me this morning...told everyone that i've met what happened and not everyone enjoyed my happiness...but to tell you people back there in our country, i skiied this season's best snow in Australia and was super happy with Slovenian scarf around my neck...now i go to the gym to do some trampolining and than pce out

This is my second summer that i am spending in Australia. I work as a coach and ski instructor. Of course it would be cool just to ski and not think about money issue all the time, but life isn't just a dream. This shot was taken after i woke up at 6.00am, went up on a mtn. and worked for 6 hours as an instructor. I rushed from Blue Cow to Perisher and got changed and did couple of laps in a park just to get that feeling back. It's always good to ride just for a couple of minutes even if i am tired after work. I suck at trampolines so i decided to try them out today. Went to the gym. Russ Henshaw already left for NZ but it was so good to catch up with Dhanu Sherpa, Will Stomps and Jesse Houghton...was way more fun as i expected...tried some new stuff...but i still suck. It's just a start. I want to get better till September when Onehitwonder event is on.

We had a long day to practice tricks again...as i haven't learned one trick properly i did it my way and at the end of the day i am pretty stoked that i know i can land this trick even easier with more steeze and different from others...Food is pretty bad but we are hungry so we eat a lot anyway...beer is good...i am drinking it right now. Today...well today wasn't that fun as usual...i skipped the morning practice due to a sore body and i think it was a good decision. i will be training for 4 more days so i dont need to do 2 practices per day. In the afternoon i decided to go for kangaroos, because i didn't learn it properly yesterday. Did couple of double backflips...easy. And than i went for a kangaroo and in the middle of rotation i noticed there is no bubbles on. It distracted me from continuing the rotation so i slowed it down a bit. So i landed on a side on a flat water from 6-7m of height. Trust me it fucking hurts. I sprained may ankles, hurt knees and ribs a bit but i'll do some overthinking of the trick and will try again tomorrow...i know it is an easy trick but it is just a mental game to do it properly. I hope my body is fine tomorrow.Pce out

Water ramp park owned by former olympic aerial champion is perfect for after season jumping and learning new tricks..
One week before i head down to Australia i managed to get some spare time to spend it with kids of our best freeski club in Slovenia-1080 club. our journey started at 5am and ended at 3pm...we grabbed a lunch and tried small area of jumps to get used to the equipment and the object...it was pretty cool to throw down some rodeo 5's and 7's some backys ... after hour and a half of jumping we were forced to quit due to a closing time but we found really cool field and played a match of football... It is so cool to be out here in middle of nowhere alone with 12 other skiers who are stoked to spend every second in nature...i am stoked as never before and am thankful to do this. Kids are an inspiration and trust me, some of them will kill our scene in the future. I just have to make sure that i fill them with my knowledge and try to give them more and they'll be killin it! Pce for now and stay tuned!

Medulin, the only rideable known spot atm. in Croatia was going off 2 days ago. I was never that happy to see the adriatic see pumpin so hard. The surf itself wasn't that good because of a wind and choppy conditions. But still i had fun...sometimes it scared me a bit when big sets came and crushed on our heads. MP and myself were screaming when we got away on some (2.5-3m) waves stumbling down. So stoked to get back and have friends around, chill and drink beer after the sesh.

It's the end of a season in Slovenia...i just came home from the coast where i had a pretty cool surf session...got some cool waves even tho it was a bit choppy and windy...but hey we're not in Australia. Speaking of...i am leaving again for OZ from June till September to coach and do some cool comps over there...i am stoked already but stoked for a surf as well and am trying to get better at it so i can kill it on Bali in October...stay tuned

Vogel resort is closed already for a month. We are still stoked to shred and this photo, taken 2 days ago, shows you that even without a cat and no oportunities to shred a spring in the park, we are able to get together and make a small jump and have loads of fun in the middle of Alps...in the middle of nowhere. I am happy and thankful...for having friends and mountains around me!

it was a project we've dreamed about, it happened for the sport, not for me, not for Marko,not for Ross but it happened to show that Slovenian scene exists...and that we're actually killin it aswell. BIG UPS GRILO AND ROSS

i wasn't updatng this blog for a long time...and the reason was the project that we were making and trying to make it happen...i'm proud of my friend Grilo and other friends...we made a jump that looked cool, felt cool and the job was done

Blue skies, dry pow, perfect day for a shot

I believe that CR took care of my day at Vogel. It was just perfect step down road gap kick. I had only 2 tries to hit it because of a tight landing and 2 more persons who jumped it aswell.

I feel as a really bad skier when it comes to step down jumps. It just feels a bit weird if you jump park kickers and don't have such a good conditions over the ski season in Slovenia to practice that kind of jump. Firstly you are not sure with how much speed you have to kick it, secondly it feels a bit awkward in the air because of higher speed and lower control in the air...and at the end you have only couple of tries to stomp the trick and get away with a clean shot.

The decision about going for the mellow shot or going for the "can't be famous doing pussy stuff" shot is always a bit tricky, but we try to make the second one work out

i went for mellow 360 and pretty cool 720 and got both caught on tape...

If you snowboard or ski you should know i am talking about what we are looking for everyday...

it can be an old building where you can do a wall ride, it can also be a spine where you can pop off or make a slash and than pop off...it can be anything and we will try to make something out of it...

In the last few years i am hanging out with my friends who are at the top of their game in snowboarding and they taught me to search and see things to make something out of them and make a shot for an edit, self promo or movie segment...maybe we are hunters that are looking for the prey or maybe we are just so passionate to see things others can't

Today after teaching little kids how to ski i built a step down road gap with my friend Domen. Snow was so wet but the weather forecast said it's gonna turn to fresh pow through the night. Soaked and wet we were pretty happy with our work in the middle of nowhere and now...now we are just praying for bluebird and fresh pow in the morning to charge it!

Old injuries

3 months old ankle injury, post concussion traumas, back injury...i gues everything went down on me now

I had 26 brain concussion in last 5 years. One 3rd of them were so bad that i had to stay in hospital for few days, but i got used to it and i haven't cared too much. But through all these years i am getting really nervous sometimes and can't really concentrate enough. Today i was practising on Vogel ski center and didn't get some easy moves and couldn't really put my mind into the trick i wanted to be as perfect as i wanted...It's not really cool if you think of everything else except skiing.

Ankle is still so bad after almost 3 months and is not going any better, because i am skiing almost everyday even if only an hour of skiing on piste. The pain is getting worse when i jump or if i don't land the trick but i don't really care at that very moment.

And a week ago i crashed pretty bad in backcountry and left my back somewhere there. Also this pain is getting stronger.

i found out that this place exists in the place i am living through season over here in Slovenia

a bit of meditation in sauna with chilled music makes me clear my head and put my mind into skiing

All these things are just signs that i shouldn't go to Austrian open, which i think is a good decision. I know that all the guys will be killin it out there and with all those injuries and my head with a foreign state of mind just doesn't work if you want to make a statement and be good at that competition. I will rest a bit and film as much as i can and prepare myself for competitions in the end of March and April.

Charles Russel Johnson III ... true lion and ski legend

Yesterday a legend Cr johnson past away in a ski accident

I met CR this year in France and was really impressed how humble, happy and stoked he was to ski. It meant everything to him and there is nothing in the world he regreted. I will be skiing in future under influence and legacy of CR. Ski in peace LION!

According to eyewitness J.T. Holmes, who was riding on the Headwall lift and saw the accident, Johnson was skiing the steep run (according to Squaw Valley’s ski report, the mountain received 12-14 inches) comprised of tight chutes and countless exposed rocks. He lost control, struck a rock and immediately appeared lifeless. Despite wearing a helmet, he suffered immense trauma to his head and neck. Once at the top of the lift, Holmes notified the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol. They instantly skied to the scene and performed resuscitation to no avail.

“C.R. possessed a perspective for the mountains and the sport of skiing that transcended skiers all around the world to new heights,” says 4FRNT Skis’ Matt Sterbenz, who sponsored Johnson and assisted him in the design of C.R.’s pro model ski, the CRJ. Shortly after the accident, Sterbenz spoke to Johnson’s father, Russ, and Holmes. “His creative vision and positive personality brought the best out of anyone he ever met. He will remain a huge influence on my life and the many others that were fortunate to know him.”

An infectious skier and personality, Johnson filmed for ski industry leaders Teton Gravity Research and MSP Films before starting his own ski film production company with best friend and ski star Tanner Hall. The Truckee, CA, native and resident was a U.S. Open Big Air champion and two-time Winter X Games medalist (2001 Big Air bronze and 2002 Slopestyle silver).

Johnson suffered a traumatic brain injury in December 2005 when another skier landed on him while skiing inbounds at Brighton Ski Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah. He was induced in a coma for 10 days during his 34-day stay at the University of Utah hospital before returning home to his parents’ house in the Tahoe area.

Filming with friends again on Vogel mtn. in winter wonderland with head deep pow for me (i'm 170cm) is always fun
This week i should prepare myself for Austrian freeski open, but the weather is so bad that today was the only sunny day in the week and you know what i do on sunny days after a big snowfall? You don't? check it out!

I woke up in the morning in Triglav apartments in Bohinj and was stoked when i looked through the window, because i knew it is sunny at the top.
With friends we made a small jump in backcountry and did some funny shots for the movie.

This is me going really small on double backflip. It was just not wu-tang enough :)

Domen made couple of bails and couple of cool 540's going really fast on the sketchy inrun.

We did a run to the valley with our filmer (really stoked to shred without backpack this time) crossing the zone of lynx. I was afraid a little bit. You never know when animal attacks you so it was better to ski fast

Happy at the top of last run where nobody left any tracks before we hit the lines.

Olympic games is the system where new sports have no place, people on high positions are earning heaps of money, sportsmen are the last thing and the whole thing makes no sence. Why is mogul skiing still at the olympics. I undrstand it is part of the history...but that is the only thing that this kind of skiing is. No one skis like that at ski resorts and there is lack of skiers that wnats to ski moguls.

In last month there were 2 victims of avalanche in our mountains... it is sad to hear that people die on our playground, where we are having fun almost everyday. Unfortunately only experiences and everyday's shred is making you smarter and alive
Today i felt like i have to go out and play in fresh powder. Conditions were far from safe, but anyway we tried to go out with Marko Grilc. If i trust someone i trust my friends that are experienced snowboarders. It didnt look sketchy at all so we gave it a go!

Checkin our playzone from the lift. It always looks so simple from far, but when you are at the top you don't know how fast and how far to hit the cliff to catch the pocket and ride away.

Grilo Air & style champ is not good in parks only. He's killin it in pow. not today cause he was shreding with me;)

In the morning we woke up in a fog and were already disspointed, but soon as we got out there...baaaaam...sun blessed our lines and surrounding.

Perfect day in pow, charged couple of times to the bottom flat of cliffs, but am alive. soooo alive!

it's always hard to skip powder days because of contests but in this case was worth it

Gloryfy bastards was the contest with best format ever. Hitting the biggest hip in my life in Gerlos at night was one of the best experiences i've ever had. I came in Gerlos on Friday night and missed the training. When i saw the feature i was blown away. Perfect shaped hip in the middle of village almost was looking really cool and pretty big. 18m of flat at the top looked sketchy to hit it over. But soon this myth was busted when i started to hit it in the morning practice. In 6 try's i decided to go a bit faster and jumped over for the first time. Came a bit short but everything was ok.

Qualifications started with jam session of snowboarders before skiers and snowboarders didn't step it up. One of them made it over with backside 180 and that scared me a bit, because my first goal was to do some cool tricks over. It was snowing and there was not much of the speed. Our time was on and skiers were al pumped. Did couple of jumps on the side and than surprised everyone with doing a smooth 540 over the whole thing. Since then everything just went crazy. Everyone saw that it is possible so they stepped up their game aswell. It was a madness already in Qualis. With my team mate we made it to finals which was pretty cool.

Finals started with best trick session where i made mistake and didn't land my 900 tail. But team finals were still ahead of us. We did a run with his 180 and my 540 and decided to go for all or nothing on the second run. We didn't make it so we had to be pleased with 3rd place. So that's pretty ok for this invitational contest that beaten me up so many times with big crashes also. Once i came up short and knocked my face with the knee into my head and broke lens. And the other time i went for a 9 and soon as i came out i knew that's going to be big. I couldn't see nothing in mid air but when i came out i saw i am still 5m to high for a sweet landing. Landed really deep and ejected out of skis. So the feature was 10m high and you can also see from the photo that i went pretty big, so decide how big was the crash.

Soon as i came home i got a call from my friends that powder time is on and we builded a kicker in backcountry and got no shots which was a bummer.

But than today we went across one peak and found perfect playground which made us shreding the best pow of the year and put big smiles on our faces

So many things can happen in just a few days and i am already stoked for new snowfall that is coming in a few days!

Quiksilver Slovenia freeski tour - slopestyle winner

It's good to progress in skiing, but to have an impact on other kid's progression is way cooler

Last weekend i won the first stop of Quiksilver Slovenia freeski tour which is a series of events through the season only for slovenian kids to meet the freeskiing world and progress in skiing through events like these. I can't be more proud to see kids jumping on kickers bigger than on most contests. Even if they can't reach the double cork level, they still keep up with style and confidence to hit the course with flat up-rail, 16m and 15m kicker in the line.

Red bull Linecatcher 2010 in Vars part 1

Last week i got an oportunity to ride on the world's biggest freestyle backcountry event in Vars

Event like the Redbull Linecatcher is the ultimate in our sport. The mix between freestyle skiing and the mountains is one of the kind and the hardest thing in skiing. For this kind of skiing the athlete needs to be in top shape, he needs to be aware of avalnches and risk with skiing in these terrains. It takes so much skills to bring all those tricks from park into big ountain area and get away with clean runs without big falls between rocks on a steep face. That is why top skiers from all over the world took place in Vars and offered the show to the public. Sage-Cattabriga Alonsa, Cr Johnson, Candide Thovex, Anthony Boronowski, Sean Pettit, Tim Durtchi, Richard Permin, Jp Auclair,...were just the few names of great riders...

Tanner Hall broke his tibias and both knees in the spring and after 5 surgeries he was judging in his words 'the best event in the season'

My team mate Cr Johnson shoved me what's up and at the end took 3rd place..Respect bredda!!!
After the first day of shreding 1m of new layer of powder on 2m of base and scooping the line for qualis, i was pretty much lost what to do and how to get down as big as i can or i can't. That is why it was really important for me to take photo of the face and figure out the way. On the photo everything looks so easy and small but when you are out there...different story

Qualifications were heavy. Such a good skiing on the Europa's highest level offered a great show to the public. 12 riders and almost 24 different lines were the point of redbull Linecatcher. We killed the face and had a smile on our faces whole day long. After qualifications only 2 spots were open for the finals. I couldn't better than Victor and Leo so i had to please myself with only side-watching the finals. In my opinion i did a good job. Did the double set cliff, some small jumps and 360 over the windlip in the first run and big 360 over the cliff and the big bottom cliff where i expected harder impact on landing. I am happy with this performance on my first ever freestyle/bc event and stoked to get back here next year!

Spending time with friends on powder days even if it's not waist deep is...everything in skiing

For my new year's present i got a chance to compete on one of the biggest freeride / freestyle event called Red Bull Linecatcher. I am leaving on friday and be doing qualis on sunday.

I also got brand new CRJ 2011 powder skis from 4frnt. It is the sickest ski to shred deep pow, crust, icy parts, jumps... That is why i come home every day with bruised hips, busted knees, sore back,...but really glad to have the chance to ski on gray days when everyone are mostly in school or at work. Tired and happy everyday after skiing all the time checking my gear, adding some cool things in my backpack for next day, trying to figure out what can i do to make the next day even better on skis.

I love my friends and love snow and even on a day like today i see colours!

Oh yeah. I also entered a photo contest with my powder and big air shot and voters decide who will take home the grand prize ( Heliskiing in Alaska )
It is definetly skier's biggest dream to ski out there, so if you'll support me and get me some votes i would be very pleased.

Jib Jam in Kranjska Gora

Rail event in Kranjska Gora was the first event in Slovenia so far and a place to be for me!

...i'm not really a fan of rails but i came here to show what i've learned in past few years on the street. i don't practice rails much in the parks, because i rather hit some jumps or shred some pow. So usualy i go on the streets and film rails. My first street rail i ever hit was the one in Planica (44 stairs, wooden crooked rail, remember?) and the next day in Kranjska Gora (double kink, narrow, steep, iron steps on bith side). So i was happy to see a sweet down rail and a flat down box before event started.

Even if the season is not fully on...actually is not on at all because of lack of snow, i was surprised that so many people actually came to shred and support freeskiing. Many of riders were at home watching movies, eating pies or whatever but still...we had fun!

After 1.5 hour of jam session riders decided who will take home 250euros and some sweet stuff form 69slam and others. I guess my style was appreciated so i won the first contest of the season. I like!

I don't celebrate christmas. It's cause of my family...u don't need to know! But the christmas spirit lives around so i was wondering what are my wishes. I definetly got an answer. I need a freedom, being able to do what i'm doing till the rest of my life and being able to love my friends as they love me.

Yesterday, 23rd December, i spent the day with friends on the coast surfing in a cold water. No matter how does this sound, it was the warmest surf since i got home. Best vibe, sunshine, glassy waves, smile all over our faces. Imagine me prepairing christmas tree, or going shopping, or cooking the dinner!!! Hells no! I am doing what i love, not for the money. Trust me, we aint got much at all! But for the love and passion. That might sound sentimental again, but you know what. Fuck all your jobs in this world and fuck all your christmas trees and spirit that come only once a year. To celebrate life everyday is something a lot of people at work don't get. Doing something that you don't love just for the money that cause problems??? Not me!

Special relationship with rails

I have to admit that i am not really into rails when it comes to skiing. I rather save myself for them after a great day in pow or park. It's not really cool to crash on a rail just before the season even starts and break some bones, twist wrists or ankles or just fall onto steps on your back.

On the other hand you can have so much fun with your friends scouting the town for spots with rails, wallrides, jibs,...Sometimes it makes me laugh when watching buddies coming from all over Slovenia on a spot at 7 o'clock and knowing that we won't be hitting this spot for at least next 3 hours. Whole preparation takes so much time and often even if the setup is done and prepared, we have to wait for filmers and photgraphers to make their, thousands and thousands euro worth gear,work. The second thing is often a speed problem which can be solved with drop in ramp, winch or sometimes even friend's pull.
So yesterday i decided to hit a sweet, pretty easy, pre-season down rail with my snowboard friends. We had pretty awesome session for about 2 hours and after putting 5 hours of work into preparation and filming of it, cops rolled in and forced us to clean everything in 10 minutes. I hate this feeling, when you know you can put down at least 2 or 3 more tricks and someone forces you to quit!!!

But there are plenty more rails and plenty more action to come in this winter and i am looking forward to stomp some tricks!

Bails behind the shot

This post is for everyone that is watching freeski movies or other extreme sports movies. Before making a thing such is a freeski movie you got to have enough really cool shots to even have a part in it. It has to be filmed well. Sometimes you can do the gnarliest trick ever on the gnarliest spot, but if the camera angle is not cool enough you can forget that day even happened! Such is life and so are the bails.
Bails are things that are usually not in those movies except sometimes in crash segments. The worst bails can cost you the season and some of them can cost you life. Yes, it can and it sucks, but that's part of the game. It's a men's game and we're playing it!

Yesterday i made this funny little feature on home resort just for fun, because visibility was horrible to ski. My snowboard friend Žiga made it look easy with FS rodeo 5 of it. But for me something wasn't cool. Skiers always have less pop than snowboarders and i also took a lot of speed into it, because i want to make sure i will go high enough and clear it with my head.
1st. try i hit the wall with my head really hard and on camera looks like i broke something there, but wasn't really hurting so i took more tries. I always rotated a bit too much and rotation kept me falling on my back, shoulder, head,...I stomped the trick once, but definetly am not satisfied with it and will try to find another spot with different transition and different landing. I sucked big time, but this is freesking. You have to try more and more till you have it and shoot it perfectly in perfect conditions. I know that at the end of the season you will all be stoked to see my edit, but till then i will have many concusions, broken bones, twisted ankles and wrists...
Check this slo motion and you will see that just a little mistake can sometimes put you on the bed for couple fo days. I luckily didn't hurt myself much by doing this so...enjoy!

Big change in Slovenia

I bitch about lame winter over here since i got home from indonesia in November. Yesterday was still a relaxed day with cool people and i spent it on a trip to Bohinj and dinner in Bled. At the dinner i was talking to my sponsor and a good friend David that i am stressed out because of green December.

It is nonesense that skier has to be forced to stay at home. But as if they hear me from above it was snowing in the morning when i woke up at 5.30. Unbelievable first snow was here. I grabbed my 4frnts, dalbellos, oakleys, skullcandys and I pod and rushed to Krvavec resort that has just opened today. Cool day with cool friends and some freshie. Still not waist deep pow or a big kicker, but i am glad that winter has finally started and that i can ski again. I will be skiing as much as i can even if i only do turns on a piste without good edges on my skis. It's fun to float! We made some shots with new GO PRO HD camera. Flat light but shots are still perfect.

Behind the scenes

Waiting period for the snowfall has begun. i can't believe that there is nothing i could shred on. Not a single park worh of shreding and driving is not working. Weather is changing fast, but unfortunately is not giving us more falls. On days like this one i am at home, having a cold and watching Billabong pipeline masters in Hawaii and wishing i was there.
I was really stoked to see the performance of Jamie o Brien. Jamie just didn't get as many waves he should. But there are still couple of guns out there. Micheal Ho, Joel Parko Parkinson, Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater, John John Florence,...John John is killin it and i would like to see this 17 years old kiddo taking it home. I started to surf this year and i know how hard is to catch a wave that you can shred on. I can't even imagine how hard is catching right waves that will barrel and stay in barrel for as long as you can till it spits you out...

B movie premiere in Ljubljana

'Yo dude yo gotta come over here...the premiere is on!'

After winning Air&style Marko Grilc made a premiere of Burton's new movie in Ljubljana. It was soooo sick to have him here as a host and as a friend who achieved so much and made at least 400 people that were on a party soooo proud of being in Slovenian extreme sport scene.

High pressure surfin

I went to a surf spot in Croatia today with my friends. It was pretty big for this spot and wind changed in the afternoon so we had an awesome session. I had no bootys and my feet were frozen and while getting out of the water in almost complete dark i twisted my ankle again on the rocks. But the smile was bigger than any pain so i am claiming the day.

It should've snow in next days so hopefully some skiing soon. Catch up!!!!

Great week

Yesterday i got home from Kaprun where i spent 4 days of hanging out with really cool people. Btw there was also Cosmopolitan opening for women hosted by Mountvacation.com . You can imagine what was going on mostly. Or not. Anyways, i tried to find the first pow in the season to draw some lines. I found it for sure, but unfortunately there was lack of base snow so the 'reef sharks' peeked out of the snowy cover almost everytime on the steep parts. There were only couple of lines, but that was all i needed for the start of the season in Europe. Only freerider know's what this feeling is and what can it do for you for the rest of the day.

2 days ago at 3 o clock in the morning i was partying pretty hard and i got news from Innsbruck where my friend Marko Grilc won Air & Style...I couldn't believe it and i still can't really tell how cool is to hang out with my friends who achieve so much in their lifes and inspire me every single day no matter where we hang out. Every single one has done so much in this season already and it hasn't even started yet. Trust me good old YUGO's will rock this year everywhere. No matter where and how we gonna kill it.

Marko invited us for a dinner tonight...stoked for wednesday? for sure yes!!! stay tuned!

Can't stop

On a day like today you can't do much. You can either hang with buddies in front of Tv or updating facebook mood status every second, which sometimes can be fun. Just after i changed my status this morning, i got a call from my friend Marko.
¨Dude i know you're bored as me. Let's go do something¨: he said. So yeah why not going to Klagenfurt, the city just behind Austria-Slovenian border. On sunday you can cruise around the city or make the first turn towards indoor skatepark with a foam pit.

Because i couldn't take my bmx bike with me i had to take skates. I was laughing actually to myself when putting on the weels on the blades of glory. Getting tunes into my ears with brand new Skullcandy headphones and preparing skates took me at least half an hour. Easy times on a day like that.

Marko and Tim were already on fire doing some cool tricks.I just wanted to shred with friends and throwing some rotations into foam pit. Marko went for some double backys and flatspins and i wanted to throw some corks after flats. On a cork 10 i twisted my ankle IN! a foam pit and ended the day with a big smile and big ankle.

I guess that is what it takes to have fun and i am cooling it down for tomorrows surfing. Can't stop at the moment. I just have too much fun.

Warming up on Dachstein

This week, it took us less than 5 minutes to make up our minds and leave for Austria to spend the week. Some of you would call that a ski holidays, but I call it practice time and dialing new tricks just before the season starts over here. Because of really bad snow conditions all over the Europe, we couldn’t go anywhere else but the Dachstein ski resort has lots to offer anyways. Besides comfy apartment in the Kielerhof lodge and warm sunny afternoons, there are loads of medium sized jumps at the top of the glacier.

On the first day, I was kinda’ disappointed by how small the jumps are in comparison to the one we built at the Kanin resort last spring, but everything went smoothly. Started warming up my ankles and knees on the icy landings. Hard landing weren’t really good to my body but sometimes, you just have to be on it.
There were many of my skier buddies from all over the Europe, who were practicing for the Winter Jam in Stockholm. This event in the world’s biggest tour event, it stops in major cities to display man-made jumps. Ten of the world’s best skiers are invited to the series and they throw down the biggest tricks on the ski market at the moment. What has been happening in our industry for the past year is just plain crazy! Double corks improved so much that no one is throwing any other tricks in competitions. It is so dangerous to do the 3 or 3 ½ full rotation of the body with a combination of two flips over the head in the same trick, all that while grabbing your skis!

I wasn’t doing doubles on Dachstein but I sure had fun to practice natural (left), unnatural (right), switch (going backwards) spins on every jump. Definitely, I am ready for some slopestyle events from now on: I have my run dialed.

On the other hand, hanging out with my friends in an apartment and cooking food for them was best. We laughed so much when I was telling them stories from my summer in Down Under and Indo. We fell asleep after that, and woke up every morning ready for some action.

I am home now and I plan to do some photo shoot and interviews. Then, I’ll head back to snow and some waves.

Following snow in November

After surfing, staying at home and do nothing (well, not nothing, but just feeling that something is happening out there and I am missing it) wasn’t really all that cool. That’s why I called my friends Nejc and David, from Bled, to go to the Soriška Planina ski resort to check what were the conditions like out there.

Thirty centimeters of snow are always better than ten, so we managed to get some pipes and rails and had a cool jib session.
My Skullcandy team mate Nejc was just killing it on his snowboard. Threw down so many tricks I was impressed, maybe because I haven’t seen him for a while now. But as a rebel I always try to find something else to hit. I found a sick sculpture of a bear in the middle of the ski resort and I decided to handplant it over. Got some cool shots with my 4frnt manager David after just 3 hits. Great work for a Sunday’s afternoon!
On the other hand, that kind of skiing wasn’t quite the one I wanted at the moment so I decided to check the weather forecast and drive to the nearest glacier: Dachstein, in Austria. It has to offer one of the best snowparks at the moment. It is definitely not THE best one but it is always cool to meet riders from all over Europe who come here to practice at the beginning of the season. The crew of snowboarder buddies and me, as a skier, filled up two cars and we cruised to ‘Jodl land’. Bluebird, a few riders and us did laps for four hours on Tuesday.

People often go to work on weekdays… but we did a good job as well.

Slovenia rocks

Start of the season over here in Europe? It is just great to come home after 5 months of Eastern world and its mentality, call friends and go surfing on the Croatian coast on a huuuge jetlag. Five hours of sleep and driving a friend’s van, because he’s too tired after 10 hours of sleep, can’t get better. Red bull overdose and slaying our ship on wheals down to the coast. And nothing can surprise more than a snowfall all over Slovenia at 3am. Like going on a ski vacation in France! But no, we were just cruising to Medulin, a spot in Istria that only works after couple of days of SW winds. Coming there at 6am and watching the biggest waves I have ever seen over here with my friends was the best feeling. Don’t get me wrong. Australia and Bali were great but here… This was just the sickest thing ever. Coming from the snow-coverd inland to the stormy coast, where there is no sign of other surfers, just woke up my ‘adrenaline seeking’ side. I didn’t even think of anything else but grabbing my board, rubbing some wax on it and rushing into 16-degree-cold water after putting on the tightest wetsuit ever.

We were in the water for 3 hours and I started to feel cold as never before. Coming from the 34-degree-hot Singapore to the 8-degree-really-not-that-warm-with-the-windchill-factor Croatia can’t be really good to your body. But still, getting all those cool glassy waves and shreding on them with a big smile on my face, almost blue from the cold, just made so much sense as my welcome-back-home trip.
I was so happy! After catching some right handers, we grabbed a beer. It just couldn’t get better.

SUMMER / WINTER IS WRAPED UP IN A COOL PACKAGE

I just came to Singapore from Bali. Aircon room after a month of 32-34 degrees. Feels really cool to just chill in a room, write some words for you guys and just remembering all those good days i have spent in Australia and Indo.

My first plan was just to travel first time in my life that far, meet new people, new culture and work as a ski instructor, do some little competitions just for fun and at the end go to Bali to learn how to stand up on a surf board. But now...i am the happiest person and grateful for what i have learned, did and tried. I understand now that my home is here, around the world, but still i missed my country and am pretty glad that my flight back to Slovenia is in 2 days. It will be just sick to get back and share feelings. ...so back to the plans...even if i didn't travel around Down under as i expected i finished my winter season with 7th place in thredbo slopestyle, 4th in Big air finals and 1st on One hit wonder event (after a knockout on a second day -check it in a clip at the end). Don't want to claim to much but that made me really happy and stoked to start my (the real) season in Europe.

...2nd thing is that i've learned how to surf on a board which is not really similar to skis on waves that are just perfect. I admit that sometimes was rough and just silly looking at me first time on Bondi just smashing the water without any result to paddle out in the line up and cutting my cheek and getting some stitches.

Apparently that was really funny to my good friends over there. But at the end i am glad that after 12 days of Salmonela poisoning i was still able to improve and just in last week changed the board for a smaller one and finally shred waves not only cruisin in the white water. Had the most fun to share that with slovenian friends in Kuta. they were also glad that i'm gone...haha

And at the end i am really really stoked for the new movie that is coming out in a few days. Last year i was filming with Finish film production Hame and shooted some cool stuff with Slovenian Outofnowhere production and New partisan films. I am announcing the trailer for a movie called +358 where you will be able to see some of my last year skiing.

INDO is siiiick

I am in Indonesia now for almost a month and started to miss our land, snow and friends. You can get new friends over here, more like meet some new people. But sometimes it is just not the thing you would like to do for the whole time.

I can' t complain on surf, because it is just great to have a swell and some breaks just infront of your door. It feels so free when you re out there and craving for the biggest one in a day, in a whole trip. But i guess i am skier just because of the one reason. Still missing some drops and pow times with buddies. That's what's keeps me going and definetly will try to shred as much as i can after 2 week when i get back home.

Indo is one big happy world...Poverty on one side and true happines of locals on the other. It is great to have them near for inspiration. Yo

We can't do great things in this world but we can do small things with great love !

So it’s time to go deep again...haha...that’s what surfers do and lately i am hanging out mostly with this branch of people...

It’ s pretty cool to wake up in the morning, have a breaky, do the morning things and than go for the waves....It is cool...but i think you can do it only for couple of months...it just gets boring...so that is exactly what i will do...

Hang out in Bali for a month and than back to Europe where i am sure the snow cap mountains will be screaming for the fresh pow...

at the moment i am sitting in a coofee bar in the middle of Bali streets...every day eating thai food,surfing and waking up in early mornings, stopped by police, bargain with them, struggling on scooter bikes on streets to get to the other side, not crowdy one...to really feel the island and the ocean...but why do i write that?...
...just because the life of a traveler / skier/ surf wannabe-er is like that...meeting new culture, taking shots and writing on a blog...

Last month in Australia was epic..after shreding on One hit wonder event i visited Clovelly side of the Sydney and print in best memories...after couples of days of surfing “i was attacked by huge white shark and got 5 stitches on my face...You should see the shark!” That’s what stories of locals are like over here...

I didn’t want to listen my girlfriends mom who is medical nurse, and went into water with those itchy stitches an black eye 2 days after incident in the white water.

Had best days and now...yeah i'm here and am wondering how will the life in the earthquake area be in the next month...unknown is ahead...let’s try to have a bit of unstressed surf life now and than for a bit back to reality life...but i am sure that that fresh pow is waiting somewhere and that soon the THE day will come...
